DR. STEVE ALFAIATE OD
Optometrist
Dr. Steve Alfaiate OD is licensed with the Alberta College of Optometrists, Alberta Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists and the American National Board of Examiners of Optometry. Dr. Alfaiate completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta and graduated from IAUPR Optometry School in 2011.
In 2011 Dr. Alfaiate also completed a three month externship in Daytona Beach Florida at Vision One. At this combined Ophthalmology/Optometry practice Dr. Steve Alfaiate provided routine eye care, contact lens fitting assessments, pre and post operative management care of cataract surgeries under the supervision of Dr. Haynes OD and Dr. Seith MD.
Dr. Alfaiate also completed another three month externship in pre and post operative cataract care, Glaucoma management and Ocular disease treatment in Ft. Lauderdale and North Miami Beach at the private offices of Dr. Hoffman and Dr. Dan both of whom were professors at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Institute in Miami.
At Crescent Heights Optometry Dr. Alfaiate practices full scope Optometry from complete vision and eye health exams to surgical referrals and Co-Management of ocular conditions. Dr. Alfaiate especially enjoys fitting contact lenses both hard, soft and the new hybrid contact lenses that use both soft and hard components for patients with high prescriptions, irregular astigmatism, or corneal conditions such as keratoconus.
DR. BIMAL KAUR OD
Optometrist
Dr. Bimal Kaur graduated from ICO (Illinois College of Optometry), Chicago in 2007 with Distinction on the Dean’s List of Cum Laude Honours. She is an alumnus of the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science Degree, double majoring in Biochemistry & Biology. While undertaking her undergraduate degree, she was involved in heart research at the St. Boniface Research Centre.
She also worked for a year at the Chemistry/Genetic Laboratory at the Health Sciences Centre after graduating from the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Kaur completed her internship at ICO, specializing in Paediatrics and externships in Connecticut (Newington Veterans Affair Hospital) and Michigan (Kresge Eye Institute), with highlighted skills in specialized contact lens fitting, corneal diseases, cataract pre-operative and post-operative management, glaucoma, and retinal diseases. She worked as an associate after graduating from ICO and decided to venture forth with her own practice, Lotus Vision Care, in February of 2009. She sold her Practice in June of 2022 and relocated to Calgary to pursue a specialty in different forms of Dry Eye Treatment along with 16 years of experience in Primary Care Optometry.
Dr. Kaur was a member of SVOSH (Student Volunteers for Optometric Service to Humanity) which facilitates the provision of vision care worldwide to needy people who cannot afford and obtain such care. In her voluntary capacity role, she attended weekly meetings to sort and package used eyeglasses donated by the Lions Club and other Organizations for distribution to the needy recipients. She funded her own mission trip to Honduras with a team of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, student Optometrists, Opticians, and Optometric assistants in 2006 that provided eye services to over six thousand people. Dr. Kaur also provided volunteer services to One Sight in Winnipeg offering free eye exams to children, families, and communities in Winnipeg and surrounding areas. She traveled to India in 2015 for 2 weeks providing eye health services to the poor and needy where most have not had any eye exams. She is an avid traveler and her most recent mission trip was to El Salvador in 2019, where she volunteered her time for the setup of an eye clinic with other health professionals in the area to promote eye care education and services. Her future undertaking is to do volunteer services of this nature for 2 to 3 weeks in third-world and developing countries every year.
Dr. Kaur is also a graduate of Bharatanatyam (Indian Classical Dance) and actively gives stage performances from time to time. Her interest in dancing has led her to currently train in Latin, hip hop, and ballroom dancing. She also loves cycling with her family on the beautiful bicycle paths of Calgary.
